One Year on TikTok, 3 Million Views and a Journey I Couldn't Have Predicted

The story behind the milestone—the lessons, opportunities and unexpected moments made possible by everyone who chose to come along for the journey.

The third TikTok I ever posted just reached one million views.

Even typing that feels a little unreal —and I'm incredibly grateful for everyone who's been part of the journey.

This month officially marks one year since I joined TikTok and started sharing travel content through Wander Travel Play™.

One year. 3 million combined post views. And now, one video with more than one million views on its own.

When I joined TikTok, I was testing the waters. I knew travel. I knew storytelling. And with 20 years of experience in communications and engagement, I understood the importance of creating content with an audience in mind.

What I didn't know was how quickly one travel recommendation could find the people looking for it—or where following that signal would eventually take me. That recommendation was Frenchmen Street in New Orleans.

It Started With One New Orleans Travel Tip

The video was simple: skip Bourbon Street for a night and experience Frenchmen Street instead.

I loved the energy, the music and the feeling of discovering another side of New Orleans. So I shared it. It was the third video I had ever posted on TikTok.

And it went viral.

At the time, I didn't know exactly what that one video would become. But I paid attention. People weren't just watching. They were saving the video, sharing it and searching for more information about things to do in New Orleans. That distinction mattered to me.

Attention is one thing. Intent is another. So I kept creating.

The Videos Kept Finding People

Over the next year, I shared travel experiences in Chicago, Atlanta, Las Vegas, St. Louis and beyond.

More videos took off.

A travel experience in Atlanta reached more than half a million views. Videos featuring family attractions in Chicago and Las Vegas crossed 100,000 views. A St. Louis hotel experience found its own six-figure audience.

And my original New Orleans video kept moving. Month after month. Long after I posted it.

As I mark my first year on the platform, my TikTok posts have generated more than 3 million combined views.

But the view count isn't the only thing I've been paying attention to. I've learned that people aren't simply looking for beautiful places to add to a wishlist.

They're looking for help deciding what's actually worth their time and money. That insight has become an important part of how I think about Wander Travel Play™.

When Views Became Travel Bookings

Eventually, something changed.

My travel content started doing more than generating views. It started driving actual travel bookings.

I joined TikTok Go in March 2026 and began connecting travelers directly with hotels, tours and experiences they could book after discovering them through my content. Before the end of my first month, I had already earned bookings.

That moment mattered.

When someone watches one of my videos and then books the hotel, tour or experience I shared, the content has moved beyond inspiration. It helped someone make a decision. That's the shift I've been paying close attention to.

Views can tell me a story reached people. Saves and searches can show me they're considering the experience. Bookings tell me they took the next step.

For Wander Travel Play, that's where content starts becoming something much bigger than a view count.

From Testing the Waters to TikTok HQ

Just months after joining TikTok Go—and before my first anniversary on TikTok—I earned the opportunity to visit TikTok headquarters as a TikTok Go Star Creator.

That one still stops me for a second.

I joined TikTok to test the waters with short-form travel content. Less than a year later, I was walking into TikTok HQ because of the work I had built on the platform. And, naturally, I turned the trip into more travel content.

Funny how far one video can travel.

One Year Later, One Million Views

Now, as I mark one year on TikTok, the third video I ever posted has officially reached one million views.

The numbers behind it tell an even more interesting story. The video has been saved more than 33,000 times and shared more than 24,000 times. Months after it was originally posted, travelers continue finding it while searching for things to do in New Orleans.

That tells me this wasn't simply a viral moment. The content became useful. Knowing so many people found value in it is something I'll never take for granted. And for me, that's the real milestone.

One Million Views Later, I'm Still Talking About New Orleans

Maybe it's fitting that my first million-view video is about New Orleans.

It's a city that has given me more than one travel story worth sharing.

On a separate visit, I stayed at The Saint Hotel New Orleans, a boutique hotel that blended historic character with a location that made exploring the French Quarter incredibly easy. It became one of those stays that reminded me how much the right hotel can shape the overall travel experience.

If you're curious about the room, the atmosphere and what I honestly thought after my stay, I shared my full review on YouTube.

If you're planning your own New Orleans getaway, you can also check special offers for The Saint Hotel before you book. Disclosure: I may earn a commission from qualifying bookings at no additional cost to you.

But one of my favorite photos from that stay isn't really about the hotel. It's a photo of me sitting in my room, writing in my Wander Travel Play New Orleans journal.

There's a little irony in that photo now.

I spend so much time creating videos to help other people discover places worth experiencing. But the journal is where I make room to remember the parts of travel that are mine.

The moments. The details. The stories that might never make it to social media.

My Wander Travel Play New Orleans travel journal feels particularly special today. One of the biggest milestones in my creator journey started with a travel memory from the same city.

The journal is a place to hold onto the details of your own trip—the moments, discoveries and stories that might never make it into a video but are still worth remembering.

Wander Travel Play Is Just Getting Started

I've spent much of my professional career thinking about experiences—how communication shapes them, how people feel while navigating them and what they remember afterward.

Travel is no different.

Sometimes the best experiences aren't about doing more. They're about discovering the right place, making a trip easier or finding an experience that helps you come home feeling a little more like yourself.

That's what I'm continuing to build with Wander Travel Play™. Travel content. Resources. Real experiences. And more ways to help people discover travel that actually feels good.

One year.

More than 3 million combined post views.

One million views on the third TikTok I ever posted.

Travel bookings before the end of my first month with TikTok Go.

And an opportunity to walk into TikTok HQ as a Star Creator before my first year on the platform was even complete.

It's a journey I couldn't have predicted, and one I'm incredibly grateful to be sharing with all of you.

Whether you've watched a video, booked a hotel, saved a travel tip or simply cheered me on, thank you for trusting me to be part of your travel journey. It means more than you know. Wander Travel Play is just getting started.
